Families attending the 2026 State Fair of Texas will notice some welcome changes at the booths this year. Ticket prices, parking and even some of the food will be slightly more affordable.
These lower prices are an important recognition from the State Fair that the annual tradition has become increasingly inaccessible for everyday Texans.
State Fair organizers rightly made affordability one of the goals for this year’s event. Expensive pricing was cited as one of the reasons fair attendance was significantly lower in 2025, with almost 400,000 fewer visitors than the previous year.
By making the experience more affordable, the fair might be able to offset this trend. The State Fair runs from Sept. 25 through Oct. 18.
There will be a $2 price cut for adult daily tickets. General admission prices vary by day and time, but adults will pay between $15 and $23, and seniors between $13 and $20.
Children ages 3 to 12 will pay $10 and adults will also pay $10 after 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Last year, when the high prices at the State Fair were the talk of the town, a child’s admission ticket ranged from $14 to $18.
Parking will also be at $25, a reduction of $5 compared to last year.
State Fair organizers have been working with vendors and reduced operational fees, which may help cut food prices. Vendors ultimately set prices, but they have been encouraged to find ways to make the State Fair more affordable for fairgoers, said Karissa Condoianis, senior vice president for public relations.
For the Big Tex Choice Awards food finalists, the price was added to the judges’ criteria “alongside taste, creativity, and presentation,” Condoianis told us.
We are glad State Fair organizers listened and found ways to make the experience more affordable. It will still be expensive, particularly for larger families, but every dollar counts. With concerns over rising gas and food prices nationwide, this is a good-faith effort to make Texans’ dollars stretch further at Fair Park.
The State Fair is a community tradition and also a major economic engine for South Dallas. We suspect that these savings will bring as much delight to parents as the food and rides will thrill their children.
