Half Price Books confirmed back in March its store at 2929 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78704 would close and relocate to a larger facility on South First Street, just a few streets eastward. In the interim, though, the chain promised to open a temporary outpost on South Lamar Boulevard so South Austin patrons could continue shopping while the South First location remained under construction.

That temporary store, located at 3005 S. Lamar Blvd., Ste. D-113, Austin, TX 78704, will officially open to the public on Saturday, August 22, company officials confirmed in an email to MySA. That bookstore will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, selling both new and used books, magazines, comics, records, CDs, DVDs, collectible items and other offerings.

The temporary store will remain in operation until the South First shop — located at 2607 S. First St., Austin, TX 78704 in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood — is under construction. No additional updates regarding that permanent location are available at this time, with company leaders acknowledging delays have pushed back its timeline.

“While we had initially anticipated opening the new permanent location later this year, the project has had a number of construction delays. We’re excited to have this new space for our customers to shop in the meantime,” Kathy Doyle Thomas, president of Half Price Books, said in a statement to MySA.
