EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Jurors in the capital murder trial of an El Paso man accused of killing his aunt and girlfriend over Christmas weekend in 2022 watched about two hours of his police interrogation before the court recessed early for the day.
Gabriel Ramirez is charged with capital murder in the deaths of his girlfriend, Kathia Rosales, and his aunt, Irma Ramirez.
State prosecutors played the interrogation video in court on Friday as El Paso police Sgt. Carrillo testified, discussing the footage frame by frame.

In the interview, Ramirez claimed Rosales told him to kill both of them and everyone else in the house. He also said Rosales gave him a kitchen knife and that, in order to repent of their sins, he had to follow through with the killings.
Ramirez went on to describe the rest of the night, including confessing that he used a box cutter to create lacerations to both his and Rosales’ necks while parked on Scenic Drive.

A psychiatric doctor who evaluated Ramirez two days after the murders confirmed he suffered from multiple mental disorders and was under the influence of fentanyl at the time of his arrest, according to testimony and evidence presented in court.
Some portions of Ramirez’s medical records were redacted when shown to the court. However, a note visible in the records stated that Ramirez confessed he had been using meth for the past two years before the murders.
The jury is scheduled to return to the courtroom Monday morning.
