The Texas Department of Transportation’s Austin District posted on social media on Thursday, August 20 that the main lanes along a stretch of I-35 would be closed during the overnight hours. Officials confirmed the Northbound I-35 lanes between Rundberg Lane and Braker Lane are slated to be closed Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22 from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. for scheduled paving work.
Drivers are encouraged to follow detour signs, TxDOT’s Austin District noted. They also flagged that commuters traveling along Northbound I-35 will need to take Exit 243 at Braker Lane before picking up the entrance ramp at Rundberg Lane to re-enter the highway.
TxDOT’s map flagged the construction is linked to the state department’s MyMobility35 program, a large-scale initiative designed to expand and rebuild approximately 79 miles of I-35 in Williamson, Travis and Hays counties “to be smart and efficient,” state documents read in part. The outlined project boundaries for this weekend’s overnight paving work is nestled in the Austin District’s I-35 Capital Express North project.
That project will add high-occupancy vehicle managed lanes in each direction along the interstate between State Highway 45 North and U.S. Hwy. 290 East, alongside reconstructing bridges, relocating and reconstructing entrance and exit ramps as well as adding a diverging diamond interchange at Wells Branch Parkway.
