SAN ANTONIO — One man was hospitalized after a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning outside a federal building downtown, leading to a secondary vehicle crash as bystanders fled the scene.
Police responded around 3:13 a.m. to a parking lot near Indianola and East César E. Chávez Boulevard where a large crowd had gathered.
Police tell us a vehicle carrying at least two individuals began circling the parking lot before someone inside opened fire into the crowd. One man was shot twice in the upper leg and thigh area. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment in non life threatening condition.
A witness told police he saw a group of males in an unknown vehicle shooting into the air and towards the direction of another group. The suspects fled the area in an unidentified vehicle and remain at large.
As the crowd rapidly dispersed following the gunfire, two vehicles collided on César E. Chávez Boulevard. Investigators do not believe the crash was directly connected to the shooting, though officers noted the panic and rush to leave the area likely contributed to the accident.
One person involved in the vehicle crash was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Police have not yet released descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
