A man in Lubbock was recently sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for his role in the traffic-related death of 17-year-old Kashara Jackson back in 2021.
Lubbock’s Fatal Car Accident
A judge has finally issued a sentence for Timothy Andrew Gonzalez, 35, for driving while intoxicated that led to the death of a passenger.

According to Everything Lubbock, 21-year-old Nathaniel Ruiz was walking near Slide Road and S. Loop 289 on August 19, 2021, when Gonzalez was approaching in his Ford F-550 truck.
Gonzalez, intoxicated behind the wheel , lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 20-year-old Alexus Jackson when the two crossed paths at an intersection. Kashara Jackson, Alexus’ sister, was in the passenger seat of the Jeep.
The two vehicles collided, killing Kashara Jackson immediately and causing moderate injuries to Alexus.
Failure to Render Aid
Debris from the crash was launched towards Ruiz while he was on foot near the accident. After the crash, Gonzalez failed to stop and render aid, instead deciding to flee northbound on foot.
Gonzalez was eventually taken into custody behind a fitness building nearby.

The pedestrian, Ruiz, was also treated for minor injuries from the debris striking him following the crash.
Timothy Andrew Gonzalez was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the crash that killed Kashara Jackson while drunk.
Lubbock Car Accidents 2025
This tragedy on Lubbock roads is not the only instance of severe car accidents in the city.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Crash Dashboard, there have been about 4,796 car crashes reported in the city in 2025 through November 7.
Unfortunately, there were 37 fatalities during this time as well, with 3,266 injuries reported.
