Dallas Trinity FC dropped the second match of its early two-game homestand, falling to Carolina Ascent FC at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, 3-1.
Dallas conceded three goals to Carolina on Saturday, two of them in the first half to send Trinity to the break down 2-0.
Dallas attempted to mount a comeback and scored early in the second half, Jasmine Hamid tallying her first of the season on an assist from Mansfield’s Camryn Lancaster.
But Carolina added a dagger in the 75th minute off an own-goal by Dallas’ Sydney Cheesman to reclaim its two-goal lead and put things out of reach for Trinity. Dallas fell to a 3-1 final despite winning the possession battle 68% to 32%.
“That’s football right?” Trinity coach Lee Nguyen said after the match. “I’m very happy with the way we played. I’m happy with the way they turned up in the second half. We were unfortunate not to get that second goal. But that’s the game right? We controlled the game but we knew the chances they wanted to create, and tried to minimize that.”
Trinity will travel for its first away match of the season on Aug. 29, at 6 p.m. against Sporting JAX.
