CCPD: Suspect dies after stabbing mother

A male suspect has died after stabbing his mother near Yorktown Blvd., according to CCPD. The victim is in stable condition. Investigators are still on scene.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Police Department officers responded to a stabbing on Friday afternoon on Schwerin Lake Dr, according to CCPD Public Information Officer Antonio Contreras.

David Blackmon, Assistant Chief for CCPD, told 3NEWS on Friday that officers arrived around 2:24 p.m. on Friday afternoon after being dispatched to an incident involving a man stabbing his mother on Yorktown Boulevard.

According to Blackmon, when officers arrived, the man was being detained by residents in the area. He said CCPD quickly took custody of the suspect, who was placed into a unit where he began to go into “distress”.

“He went into distress in the patrol unit,” Blackmon said. “When he went into distress the officers quickly got medical attention for him.”

Despite their quick action, the suspect died, according to Blackmon.

“Were not sure what happened, if it was medical, or drug induced — it’s early in the investigation,” Blackmon said.

The victim, who is also the suspect’s mother, is being treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition, he told 3NEWS.

“We don’t know if it’s mental, or drug induced,” he said. “We’re leaving the scene to detectives. All of those things will come out in the investigation.”

Blackmon added that the suspect and victim both live in the area. Their identities have not been released.
