The Moon will take a dramatic dip into Earth’s shadow Thursday night, turning coppery before returning to full brightness

HOUSTON – Houston skywatchers, get ready for a celestial show. A deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible Thursday night, Aug. 27, with nearly the entire Moon slipping into Earth’s darkest shadow.
Partial eclipse begins — 9:34 p.m. CDT: A dark “bite” will start to appear on the Moon.
Peak fullness — 11:13 p.m. CDT: About 96.3% of the Moon will be inside Earth’s umbra, and the shadowed portion may glow coppery or reddish.
Partial eclipse ends — 12:52 a.m. CDT: The Moon will begin shining fully again as it leaves the darkest part of Earth’s shadow.

No special glasses are needed to watch a lunar eclipse. Find a spot with a clear view of the sky, then look up and enjoy the show.
