Driver veers onto sidewalk, hits pedestrian and flees near downtown, police say

SAN ANTONIO — A man was hospitalized after police said a driver veered onto a sidewalk and struck him before fleeing the scene Saturday night.

The crash happened around 9:46 p.m. in the 300 block of East Martin near Navarro Street.

Police said the 31-year-old man was walking westbound on East Martin Street when a vehicle veered onto the sidewalk and struck him.

It’s unclear why the driver veered off the road. The driver did not stop to render aid and fled the area, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Police are still searching for the driver.
