As the semester starts and school is back in full swing, finding ways to have fun can become difficult.
Here is a list of places students can spend a day for free or at a low cost:
River Legacy Park
River Legacy Park is a public city park that features 8 miles of paved hiking and bike trails, a 10-mile mountain bike trail, playgrounds, picnic areas and more. Visitors can also bird-watch and go to the park’s nature study events. The park is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The River Legacy Foundation hosts annual community events such as an Earth Day festival and W.A.T.E.R. Festival. These events are free and often focused on environmental education and conservation. More free or affordable events can be found on the park’s website.
Arlington Yoga Center
The center provides open yoga classes at many levels and special events like sunset yoga. The center also offers online classes. The studio has no mirrors and encourages an environment where there is no judgment.
Regular classes are $10 each for students, military and seniors. Walk-ins are $15. Prices may vary for events or workshops.
Levitt Pavilion
The Levitt Pavilion offers many free outdoor concerts and events, and free parking is available in downtown Arlington. The concerts often feature community orchestras and Texas-based singers.
The fall concert series begins Sept. 4 and runs every Friday and Saturday and occasional Sundays.
Arlington Museum of Art
The Arlington Museum of Art hosts special exhibitions and art-related classes and programs for adults and children. Every three to four months, the museum curates a unique exhibition, according to its website.
Past exhibits included “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Collection,” “Game of Thrones: The Exhibition” and “José Guadalupe Posada: Legendary Printmaker of Mexico.”
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Monday.
Arlington Public Library
The Arlington Public Library offers free and low-cost events for residents and visitors across all seven branches.
Visitors can also enjoy the makerspace on the second floor of the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. The area has a vinyl cutter, embroidery machines, 3D printers and a milling machine. Makerspace staff members provide training and beginner-friendly programs monthly. Visitors must have a library card and photo ID to use the materials.
Rhythm and Relics
Rhythm and Relics is Truth Vinyl’s recurring pop-up market. From noon to 5 p.m. every second Saturday of the month, Truth Vinyl brings vendors to Arlington or Dallas to share their handmade or vintage goods. The event also features DJ entertainment.
Admission is free, and a full bar is available inside the shop.
