Roaches, rodent droppings and food stored at unsafe temperatures were found at Tarrant County food establishments during the latest round of health inspections, according to the inspection report.
The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data based on 291 inspections from Aug. 2 through Aug. 15.
Tarrant County’s health inspections function on a 100-point scale, where a score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered extremely poor. Tarrant County Public Health inspects all restaurants in the county except those in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills.
Three restaurants received a low score:
Burger Box at 201 E Kennedale Pkwy in Kennedale. Score: 57.Navajo Mini Mart at 7028 Navajo Trail in Lake Worth. Score: 64.Nikko at 1420 E Southlake Blvd, Suite 168 in Southlake. Score: 67.
Two restaurants had problems with rodent droppings:
Volcanos Sports Grill at 129 E Harwood Road in Hurst. Health inspectors observed rodent droppings in dry storage below shelving.Texas Donut at 111 N Forest Hill Lane in Everman. Health inspectors observed mouse droppings in the corners of the floors throughout the facility and in the restroom. Score: 95.
Restaurants with roach-related violations:
Smoothie King at 219 at 2707 E Southlake Blvd, Suite 150 in Southlake, had a score of 83. Health inspectors observed what appeared to be a dead roach near the order completion counter.Sbarro Pizza at 1101 Melbourne Road, Suite Vc08 had a score of 85. Inspectors observed several dead German roaches on the floor throughout the facility.Bear Creek Golf Club at 3500 Bear Creek Court near Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, had a score of 91. Inspectors observed a few live roaches near the floor drains in the back ware washing area.No 1 Chinese Restaurant at 6325 Wichita St. in Forest Hill, had a score of 93. Health inspectors observed two live German roaches on the floor.Rosas at 6050 Hawrylak St. in Lake Worth, had a score of 93. Health inspectors observed a German cockroach walk from the ceiling to behind the file cabinet in the office.Incredible Burger at 1101 Melbourne Road, Suite 2303 in Hurst, had a score of 94. Health inspector observed a German roach on the nest on the bottom shelf of the prep table behind the prep cooler inside the electrical outlets.Sonic Drive In 1696 at 1421 Brown Trail in Bedford. Inspectors observed a couple dead cockroaches underneath shelvings.
At Sushi Sakana at 2175 E Southlake Blvd, Suite 170 in Southlake, inspectors found numerous foods above required holding temperatures, including shrimp tempura at 70 degrees and foods in the walk-in cooler at 46 to 48 degrees. According to the report the items were discarded, and the walk-in cooler could not be used until it was serviced and approved by Tarrant County Public Health. The eatery scored 73.
Café Italia at 505 W Northwest Hwy in Grapevine scored 72 after inspectors found fried eggplant, cooked noodles, raw chicken, lobster-stuffed mushrooms and raw salmon holding at 48 to 51 degrees in a cooler since the previous day. The inspector ordered the restaurant to discard the food.
Burger Box at 201 E Kennedale Pkwy in Kennedale scored 57 after inspectors noted multiple violations, including an employee handling raw meat and then hamburger buns with the same gloves and employees touching ready-to-eat foods with bare hands. Inspectors also found milk at 60 degrees and raw beef stored above condiments and milk.
