BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Defending national champion Texas A&M volleyball closed out AVCA First Serve this afternoon with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-20) loss to No. 11 SMU. The Aggies entered the match following a 3-1 to No. 7 Louisville on Friday.
Here is a game rundown:
Why did A&M lose? A&M and SMU went back and forth through the first set. The Aggies came back from down to tie the set at 22. However, SMU took set one, 27-25.
A&M held control early in the second set, but Suli Davis took the momentum back for SMU midway through. The Mustangs took set two, 25-19.
In set three, SMU pulled away. The Mustangs went on an eight-and-two run halfway through the set, leaving A&M behind. SMU took set three, 25-20, completing the sweep and beating the Aggies 3-0.
Who stood out? Natalie Ring led the Aggies for the second straight match with 13 kills.
What’s next? A&M will head back home to Reed Arena for the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday. The Aggies open play in a doubleheader against Grand Canyon, with first serve at 11 a.m.
