AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) – Two people were injured as fire crews battled a brush fire sparked by another fire at the Austin Country Flea Market Sunday afternoon.
The fire erupted shortly after 6 p.m. in the 9500 block of US 290. The Austin Country Flea Market is one of the oldest and biggest weekend flea markets in Central Texas.
According to the Austin Fire Department, one large structure was engulfed in flames. That fire then ignited a “multi-acre brush fire that contained a tire pile that created the large column of black smoke.”
The brush fire was contained Sunday night. “All forward fire progress on main body has been stopped,” the fire department said.
Two people suffered “minor injuries,” but the fire department did not clarify whether they were firefighters.
The cause of the fire at the flea market remains under investigation.
