Certain players just mesh with fans better than others, and the Dallas Cowboys have seemingly found their next fan favorite with Shiyazh Pete.

The former Kentucky and New Mexico State offensive lineman doesn’t receive the most recognition on the field. However, his pathway to the NFL is drawing lots of attention after becoming the first member of the Navajo indigenous community to sign with a team.

Pete, 23, signed with the Cowboys this offseason as an undrafted free agent. His role in the team is quickly growing though, including an incredible locker room speech that the young player delivered during preseason Week 2.

It’s clear that the former college football standout is nervous while speaking to his team. Although, his message has captivated the Cowboys fanbase due to his genuine love for the game and appreciation of the NFL opportunity.

Dallas’ offense is already a major talking point for the league heading into the 2026 NFL season. It’s a very talented group starting with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

However, Pete’s becoming an immediate draw to the fans and media as the preseason rolls along. The 6-feet 9-inch offensive tackle is physically imposing on the field, but incredibly eloquent and thankful off of it.

He makes for the perfect underdog tale as the regular season approaches and the Cowboys look to get back into the thick of the NFC East battle this year.

Pete was one of just five Native American Division 1 college football players last season before making the leap to the NFL. Now, he’s giving his Navajo community an even greater thing to cheer for as he looks to continue his professional football ambition.
