Citibus to launch new, redesigned routes Sept. 28

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Citibus will launch Phase One of its approved 5-Year Service Plan on Monday, Sept. 28, introducing one new route and three redesigned routes.

The plan was adopted in November 2024. The updated routes incorporate and streamline portions of existing routes.

Phase One includes the following routes:

Route 205 (Pink): A new route extending from North Indiana through Texas Tech University and Covenant to South Quaker and 122nd Street, expanding transit access to South Lubbock.Route 025 (Purple): Formerly Route 6, this redesigned route combines portions of existing service to improve connections between Parkway Drive, Dunbar, 50th Street and South Plains Mall.Route 211 (Green): A redesigned route connecting Cherry Point to West End via 4th Street, incorporating segments of previous routes.Route 214 (Red): A modernized route serving Sunrise Canyon along 19th Street to West End, combining portions of existing routes.

Chris Mandrell, general manager of Citibus, said the first phase expands access to public transportation, strengthens connectivity across the city and provides more convenient travel options for riders.

“Our community continues to grow, and Citibus is committed to growing with it,” Mandrell said. “The first phase of our 5-Year Service Plan expands access to public transportation, strengthens connectivity across the city, and provides more convenient travel options for our riders.”

Community outreach events

Citibus will host community outreach events in August and September to help riders prepare for the changes. Scheduled events include:

Patterson Library: Thursday, Sept. 10, 3-5 p.m.Groves Library: Wednesday, Aug. 12, 4-6 p.m.Maggie Trejo Community Center: Tuesday, Aug. 25, 5-7 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept. 23, 5-7 p.m.Downtown Plaza: Monday, Sept. 14, noon-2 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Additional events may be added before the launch. Citibus said attendees at each event can view updated route maps, ask questions, receive trip-planning assistance and learn how the new service may affect their travel.

Updated route maps, schedules and trip-planning resources will be available online, through the GoPass app and at Citibus facilities before the Sept. 28 launch.
