CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Corpus Christi teenager received a special birthday surprise when a longtime family friend decided to celebrate with him in person.

Anthony Lopez celebrated his 15th birthday with family and friends.

Before the party, Anthony’s father, Carlos, asked a longtime family friend to record a birthday video for his son.

Instead, the friend decided to come to the party.

Bobby said the families have a close relationship and that being there in person was more meaningful than sending a video.

Carlos said the surprise meant a lot to Anthony and the entire family.

He said the gesture also showed the friend’s compassion, particularly toward children with special needs like Anthony.

For Carlos, the friend’s time and presence turned out to be the greatest gift of the day.
