We looked back with Lister on five years of STEM magic and how far Mommy and Me: The Listers has come. Plus, she’s getting ready for the 5th annual Mommy and Me: The Listers STEM Carnival in September.

As with any science experiment involving chemicals, adult supervision and appropriate safety precautions are recommended.
Today on “Houston Life,” Lister brought a preview of the hands-on science activities families can expect with two chemistry experiments: Egyptian Night and Elephant Soap.
1. Egyptian Night
Egyptian Night demonstrates how chemical reactions can change over time. Two clear solutions are combined, but instead of changing immediately, there’s a brief delay before the mixture suddenly turns a dramatic dark color.
2. Elephant Soap
Creates a burst of foam using hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, food coloring, yeast and warm water.
Yeast acts as a catalyst, helping hydrogen peroxide break down and release oxygen. The dish soap traps the oxygen in bubbles, creating the foamy reaction.
With adult supervision and safety glasses, families can try a family-friendly version of the experiment at home.
