Turkey Leg Hut is making a comeback in Houston, this time through a new partnership with Harold’s Chicken & Sports Bar on Washington Avenue.
The Houston food staple will return for a series of Sunday pop-ups beginning Sept. 6, with the events planned every Sunday throughout football season.
Turkey Leg Hut will serve its signature loaded turkey legs at Harold’s Chicken, while the Chicago-style restaurant will continue serving its fried chicken. The two businesses are also exploring potential collaborative menu items.
The Sunday events are also expected to feature DJs, entertainment and internet personality Frankie Bleau.
The announcement has sparked plenty of reaction online, with some Houston diners excited to see the brand return while others questioned the partnership because of the controversy surrounding the former restaurant.
Turkey Leg Hut officially ceased operations in 2024 after more than a decade in Houston. The brand became known for its oversized smoked turkey legs and soul food-inspired dishes and developed a large following, including visits from celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Megan Thee Stallion and James Harden.
Owner Nakia Holmes has since teased a return through pop-ups and other partnerships.
Holmes previously held a Turkey Leg Hut pop-up at the Quad on Almeda this summer, where customers lined up to get the restaurant’s signature food.
The partnership brings together two brands with Chicago connections.
Holmes is from Chicago, while Provare Restaurant Group, which operates Harold’s Chicken & Sports Bar, also got its start in Chicago.
Harold’s opened its Washington Avenue location in March in the former Clutch Bar space.
