SAN ANTONIO — The excitement is building here at Southwest Independent School District as we get closer and closer to the first bell ever for the Juan Alvarado Elementary School.

Families will be packing into the entrance dropping off their students in this brand new elementary school.

The school gained its name from longtime Southwest ISD trustee Juan Alvarado. The district says this is the place to be and classes are nearing capacity as everyone is excited to be part of the grand opening.

Mr. Alvarado will also be here to welcome students in for the first time ever.

Southwest ISD officials also told us that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) contacted them Thursday and informed them that their grade for the district has been upgraded from their C status to an B as their district continues to grow.

Across all 19 of their schools, the district serves nearly 15,000 students.
