Corpus Christi will move from Stage 2 to Stage 1 water restrictions beginning Wednesday after updated projections showed the city’s combined reservoir levels are expected to remain above 40% through September.
City Manager Peter Zanoni announced the change on Tuesday ahead of a water update to the City Council.
“This is somewhat breaking news,” Zanoni said. “The newest information shows that we’ll be above 40% all the way till the end of September.”
The city moved into Stage 2 restrictions just weeks ago when projections showed reservoir levels would remain above 40% for only a short period. Zanoni said the improved conditions are lasting longer than initially expected.
Under Stage 1, residents will be allowed to water lawns and landscaping once a week instead of once every other week.
“We’re going to move to Stage 1 water restrictions,” Zanoni said. “What that means is we can water or irrigate our lawns and landscaping once a week instead of once every other week.”
Zanoni said the decision follows the city’s drought contingency plan and the latest assessment from Corpus Christi Water.
