A “secret H-E-B” in Texas? Let’s put on our myth-busting hats, y’all.
Last month, an Austin subreddit post gained traction after a user posted about a “little path through the woods” that led to an H-E-B store, writing: “Decided to check it out and it lead to a whole giant HEB!! I’ve lived here since ‘94 and never knew it existed!”
The post garnered hundreds of upvotes and comments, as commenters both praised the grocery store location but also, let’s just say, got a little tongue-in-cheek about the pseudo discovery.
“It’s wild how this HEB is only accessible through the woods,” @tiMartyn wrote, with @good_split_3749 quipping: “Shhh! No you didn’t, you’re hallucinating. That doesn’t exist.”
The “secret H-E-B” in question is the San Antonio-based grocer’s Far West H-E-B, located at 7025 Village Center Drive, Austin, TX 78731. Nestled in the Northwest Hills neighborhood, the area has a prominent Jewish population, with the store offering kosher items within its bakery, meat and deli sections.
As for the trail? MySA took a little trek up north to see it for ourselves. The tiny slope is more of a glorified plot of land than a trail, and if you value your intact ACL the way I do? You’ll probably not want to attempt it, even with the hand rope attached.
The slope also leads up to a condominium complex, so it’s not exactly open to the public to go on a 30-second hike to and from.
