Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands of all time; throughout their history, they’ve been through Texas a handful of time. But have they ever visited El Paso to perform or just in general? The answer is yes!…and no.
The band, Led Zeppelin, never got to play El Paso before & 2 of their members, John Paul Jones & the late John Bonham, have never been to El Paso either. However, that leaves 3 other members and they HAVE played here before. Let’s start off with their lead singer singer, Robert Plant.
Robert Plant played El Paso in the 80s during one of his solo tours
While on his “Non Stop Go” tour in 1988, Robert Plant made a stop at UTEP’s Special Events Center (now called the Don Haskins Center) on June 10, 1988. Looking at the setlist that’s on Setlist.FM, he played only about 10 songs; most of them originals like “Little By Little”, “Big Log” & “Tall Cool One”.
Although he DID do 3 Zeppelin songs as well; “”Misty Mountain Hop”, “In The Evening” & wrapped up the night with “Communication Breakdown”. That’s Robert’s only performance in El Paso but you can read about all about Robert’s love for Texas here.
Jimmy Page also played El Paso duringĀ one of his solo tours along with Jason Bonham
Just over 3 months later, Zeppelin’s iconic guitarist, Jimmy Page, ALSO played the Special Events Center on September 16, 1988 during his Outrider solo tour. Jimmy played a whopping 19 songs; a mix of originals, covers & Led Zeppelin hits.
That too was Jimmy’s only time in El Paso but it had a lasting impact on one Zeppelin fan, as he posted on a Led Zeppelin forum about how he met Jimmy & Jason Bonham while they were in El Paso (makes sense since Jason was drumming for Jimmy at that time).
Currently that’s been Jason’s only time in El Paso, but he will make another appearance with Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening at the Abraham Chavez Theater on August 26, 2026. So after this week, Jason Bonham will be one the guy from Zeppelin to play El Paso.
