Garland police are searching for the driver of a work truck that struck and significantly injured a 12-year-old boy Saturday morning before leaving the scene.
The boy was crossing North Garland Avenue at Apollo Road in a crosswalk with an electric scooter about 8:30 a.m. when he was struck by a white utility-style truck, police said. He was in stable condition Saturday after sustaining what police described as significant injuries.
The driver stopped briefly after the crash but then left, traveling south on North Garland Avenue, according to police.
Investigators described the vehicle as a four-door truck with storage compartments along the sides of its bed. The driver may be a heavyset man with a short buzz cut.
Police said the truck traveled east on Apollo Road before turning south onto North Garland Avenue. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash to review dashcam footage that may have captured the truck before or after the collision.
Police also are urging the driver to contact the department and provide an account of what happened.
