There are plenty of good reasons to spend a Saturday morning fishing at Buffalo Springs Lake.
Catching the biggest bass of the day is one. Winning some cash certainly doesn’t hurt, either.
But on Saturday, September 26th, there’s an even better reason to get up before sunrise and head to the lake.
Casting For A Cure is bringing anglers and families together for a bass fishing fundraiser benefiting the Lubbock Pediatric Cancer Association, with all proceeds staying right here in our community to help children and families affected by pediatric cancer.

The tournament gets started early.
Boats leave the Buffalo Springs Lake marina at 6:45 a.m., with lines officially hitting the water at 7 a.m. Fishing continues until 2 p.m., with hourly weigh-ins throughout the tournament.
Entry is $40 per person, and that includes one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets will be available, with prizes awarded at the end of the event.

And there’s some actual money on the line.
First place during each hourly weigh-in pays $100, second place gets $50, and the angler landing the overall Big Bass wins $500.
Participants arriving between 6 and 8 a.m. receive free gate admission.

One of the nice things about Casting For A Cure is that you don’t need a bass boat with enough electronics to communicate with NASA.
Bank fishing and boat fishing are both allowed.
Tournament rules call for artificial bait only, one pole per angler and no trolling. Fishing underneath the bridge is prohibited, and all Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regulations apply.
Where the Money Goes
The real winner Saturday won’t be determined at the weigh-in.
The Lubbock Pediatric Cancer Association works with young cancer patients and their families throughout Lubbock and surrounding communities.
The organization helps provide everything from toys and activities for hospitalized children to medications not covered by insurance, school technology, travel and hotel expenses, scholarships, summer camps, family events and grief counseling.
In other words, these are real needs facing real West Texas families during what can be an incredibly difficult time.

Casting For A Cure is also receiving support from local businesses, organizations and families, including C&D Waste, Taylor Stephens Real Estate Co., True Texas Roofing Pros, Buffalo Springs Lake, Buffalo’s Backyard Restaurant & Bar, Scott and Kristy Doss, and Michael and Chana Damron.
And that’s really what this event is about.

Sure, somebody is going home with $500 and bragging rights for landing the biggest bass.
But every person who enters, buys a raffle ticket or supports the event is helping build a bigger safety net for local families dealing with childhood cancer.
Casting For A Cure takes place Saturday, September 26th, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buffalo Springs Lake.
Bring your fishing gear, bring the family and bring your best bass-fishing story.
For once, the size of the fish isn’t really the most important part.
