EL PASO, Texas —

Nine members of the El Paso community are putting on their dancing shoes for a good cause.

The annual Dance For Kids’ Sake event is happening at the Plaza Theater on Saturday, Aug. 29. People have been practicing for months to put on dance routines with the help of local dance studios.

It is the organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

“And all funds do stay local here in El Paso. They all will benefit your community, all the El Paso kids that need and want our services and it truly is incredible the impact that our program has thanks to the volunteer mentors that step up in our program,” said Rebecca Romero, Child Development Officer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso.

The organization partners local youth with mentors and it’s something that Romero said is important in El Paso. The organization is still looking for volunteers to give one or two days of their time to mentor local kids.

“We have about 100 youth on the waiting list right now and about another probably 150 to 200 that are actually already matched right now. So we are always trying to kind of close that gap,” Romero said.

Dance for Kids’ Sake will feature live performances, and music, a silent auction and local vendors. KFOX14 anchor Jessica Gonzalez will emcee the event alongside Wayne Hilton.

It is at 6 p.m. at the Plaza Theater. Tickets are $50 for general admission.
