SAN ANTONIO – A 42-year-old man is accused of punching a 70-year-old man during an argument over a vehicle.

Fred Valdez Jr. faces a state jail felony charge of injury to a child, elderly, or disabled individual through criminal negligence.

Police responded to an assault report Tuesday at 11807 South Foster Road on the Southeast Side. 70-year-old Eugene Clifton Mcbee Jr. told investigators that Valdez had been visiting his girlfriend, Janie Salazar, who resides in an RV located 20 yards from Mcbee’s home on the property.

Mcbee stated that Salazar requested he give Valdez a ride home using her vehicle. An argument subsequently broke out regarding who was going to drive. During the dispute, Valdez allegedly sucker-punched Mcbee from behind, striking him in the mouth. Police records show Mcbee suffered a swollen bottom lip and had dried blood on his mouth, chin, and beard. Photographs of the injuries were documented and submitted as evidence.

Following the altercation, Valdez reportedly entered Salazar’s vehicle and fled the scene, nearly striking Mcbee as he drove away. Mcbee reported feeling pain from the strike and signed a declaration of complaint stating his intent to pursue criminal charges.
