HOLLYWOOD PARK, Texas – Hollywood Park police are warning residents after a raccoon tested positive for rabies.
In a news release Wednesday, police said the raccoon was found around the 300 block of Yosemite Drive, near Casa Del Vista.
Police believe the raccoon may have come in contact with a rabid skunk.
“No human exposure has been reported, but please take immediate precautions to keep your family and pets safe,” police said in the release. “I highly recommend you educate your children to not provoke or go near wildlife. Especially if they appear sick.”
Police urge residents to keep their distance from wild or stray animals and to avoid attempting to approach or capture them. Pet owners should also ensure their pets are up to date on rabies vaccinations.
If a person or pet comes into contact with wildlife, or if an animal is spotted behaving strangely, residents should report it immediately.
Reports can be made to Bexar County dispatch at 210-335-6000. Residents can also contact Hollywood Park Animal Control or local law enforcement.
