SAN ANTONIO – There’s always time to celebrate your furry friends, but today is extra special.

It’s National Dog Day!

It falls on this day because it marks the day its founder, Colleen Paige, adopted a dog for the first time as a child.

There is a website for the day as well, NationalDogDay.com, and it encourages people to visit shelters and rescues.

And don’t worry, cat people. Paige is also the founder of National Cat Day, which is on Oct. 29.
