Instead of heading to a club or bar for electronic dance music, fans of the genre can experience a one-night-only rave on Sept. 12 inside an airplane hangar at the Frontiers of Flight Museum.
Back in February, Cross Border Warriors, the Dallas-based company behind the NOT REVERSE electronic music series hosted a rave under the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
In a couple of weekends, they’ll bring EDM to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field with a special event called Dallas Airspace.
“We wanted to take the music somewhere completely unexpected and allow the location itself to become part of the experience,” said Murad Gastelum, co-founder of Cross Border Warriors. “The Frontiers of Flight Museum immediately felt right because it gives us something a traditional venue simply cannot re-create. You’re surrounded by aviation history, aircraft and artifacts while listening to forward-thinking electronic music.”
Gastelum says a big inspiration for this event was Cercle, which is the French music and events platform known internationally for bringing electronic music into historic landmarks, museums, natural landscapes and architectural spaces around the world.
“Their approach has always fascinated me because the location isn’t simply a backdrop. It becomes part of the story,” Gastelum said. “Obviously, traveling to Europe or across the world to experience events like that isn’t accessible to everyone. So the thought behind Dallas Airspace was: Why can’t we create our own version of that feeling here in Dallas?
The lineup of Dallas Airspace will feature both international and local artists including Marco Bailey, MANTi, Dove City, ZILLY P, SUBSTR8 and Prototype. Rave attendees will get to listen to music while exploring the exhibits and meeting fellow ravers. There will also be a full-service bar from which to purchase drinks.
“I want to help push the idea of what an electronic music event in Dallas can look like,” Gastelum said. “We have spent years watching incredible destination events happen in Europe, Mexico and other parts of the world. Dallas has the spaces, the history, the artists and the audience to create memorable cultural experiences here, too.”
The event is for attendees 18 and up and there will be free parking.
