Rabies alert issued in Hollywood Park. (August 27, 2026)
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) —
The Hollywood Park Police Department is warning residents after a raccoon found near the 300 block of Yosemite Drive, close to Casa Del Vista, tested positive for rabies.
Police believe the raccoon may have come into contact with a rabid skunk. No human exposure has been reported.
Residents are urged to keep away from wild or stray animals, especially those displaying unusual behavior, and to teach children not to approach or provoke wildlife. Pet owners should make sure their animals are current on rabies vaccinations.
If you or a pet have contact with a rabid raccoon:
Bitten or scratched: wash the area immediately and thoroughly with soap and water, then seek medical advice today about rabies post-exposure treatment.
Saliva got into a wound, eyes, mouth, or nose: treat this as a potential exposure and contact a healthcare professional promptly.
Only saw the raccoon / it was nearby: that by itself is not generally a rabies exposure.
Your dog or cat interacted with it: contact your veterinarian and local animal control. Texas specifically requires testing of raccoons involved in biting incidents.
Don’t approach, capture, or handle the raccoon, even if it appears dead.
Anyone who encounters wildlife or notices an animal behaving strangely should report it to Bexar County dispatch at 210-335-6000, Hollywood Park Animal Control or local law enforcement.
