Cuban national convicted of sexually assaulting child arrested at U.S.

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio Sector arrested a Cuban national who officials said was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a child after he was found in a group that had entered the country illegally.

According to U.S. Border Patrol, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a group of four men on Aug. 19. One of the men was later identified as Alexis Suarez-Trejos, 52, described by Border Patrol as “an illegal alien from Cuba.”

Border Patrol said record checks showed Suarez-Trejos was convicted in 2001 in Nevada for sexual assault of a child under 14. He was sentenced to 40 months’ incarceration and placed on the Nevada sex offender registry, the agency said.

Border Patrol said Suarez-Trejos was most recently removed from the United States on Oct. 22, 2025.

As a convicted felon, Suarez-Trejos faces a charge of reentry after deportation, which Border Patrol said carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

“Illegal aliens who prey on the children of our communities are an egregious threat,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony “Scott” Good said. “I’m proud of our agents who, every day, stand ready to protect this nation from such dangers.”
