Texas Whole Foods shoppers may want to check the salsa, guacamole or prepared foods sitting in their fridge as a multistate Salmonella outbreak tied to jalapeños continues to trigger recalls.
Whole Foods Market, which is part of Amazon’s grocery business, is recalling select salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo and other prepared foods containing jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors, according to an announcement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The products were sold online and in Whole Foods Produce and Prepared Foods departments across 12 states, including Texas, with Best Before or Best By dates ranging from Aug. 7 through Aug. 16. Whole Foods said no illnesses have been reported in connection with its recalled products.

The recall, however, is part of a considerably larger outbreak. The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating Salmonella Javiana infections linked to fresh jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors.
As of the FDA’s latest update, 431 illnesses have been reported across 32 states, including Texas. Fifty-seven people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported.
“Additional recalls have been initiated by several companies for jalapeños and products made with recalled jalapeños,” the FDA said.

Those recalls have included products sold through Costco, H-E-B, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Target and Kroger, among other retailers.
“Do not eat, serve, or sell recalled fresh jalapeños or products containing recalled jalapeños,” the FDA said.
Whole Foods customers who purchased affected products should not eat them and can bring a valid receipt to any of its locations for a full refund.
Salmonella infections can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, with young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems at greater risk of severe illness, according to the FDA.
