Seguin High School evacuated during dismissal after bomb threat reported to police

UPDATE (8 PM) – Seguin ISD has confirmed that Seguin High School will be open for school tomorrow on its regular schedule. Tomorrow night’s football game will also continue as scheduled.

Additional security will be on hand at the school and at the game. Counselors will also be available for students at the high school as needed.

(6:30 PM): Seguin High School was evacuated during dismissal at the end of the school day after a bomb threat was reported to police, according to a press release from Seguin Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jack Lee.

The district said the evacuation was triggered by a call to the Seguin Police Department regarding a bomb threat after the final bell. Seguin ISD said high school staff “evacuated the building quickly, safely, and as efficiently as possible,” and that district staff implemented emergency protocols, including reuniting students with their families at the Seguin Coliseum.

Dr. Lee said the district’s “highest priority” is the safety and well-being of students and staff, and that in emergencies the district’s first responsibility is to respond, ensure safety and work closely with law enforcement and emergency personnel. He also noted that while the district works to communicate with families as quickly as possible, “there may be times when our initial focus must remain on managing the situation and ensuring everyone is safe.”

The superintendent thanked responding agencies, including the Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire Department, Guadalupe County Fire Rescue, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, Guadalupe County Constable Precinct 2, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The district also addressed rumors, saying it was aware “that information has been shared suggesting circumstances beyond what is described above,” but that “at this time, we have no confirmed information to support those claims.” The district asked families and community members to rely on official communications from Seguin ISD and law enforcement for accurate information.

“As of the release of this communication, we are still actively reunifying students with their families,” Dr. Lee said, adding that district and campus leadership teams would remain in place to support the reunification process until every student is safely reunited with family or otherwise accounted for. The district said it would provide another update once all students are reunified or more information becomes available.

(5:30 PM): All Seguin High School students who were not immediately picked up or already on a bus are being taken to Midway Hall at the Coliseum on Austin St. for reunification.

SEGUIN, Texas – A heavy police presence was reported at Seguin High School, prompting officials to ask the public to stay away from the area.

In a post on Facebook, the Seguin Police Department said there is “currently a heavy police presence at Seguin High School” and asked people to “please avoid the area and allow officers to safely conduct their investigation.”

According to the Seguin Independent school District on Facebook, Officers were called to SHS to conduct an investigation after dismissal, and students were instructed to evacuate.

Seguin PD is working to sweep the building; please know that all students are safe. Students can meet their parents at the Coliseum on Austin St.

Police said they will provide additional information as it becomes available and thanked the public for its patience and cooperation.
