Food For Thought: Popular seafood restaurant back open after failing health inspection

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A popular restaurant known for its seafood boils is back open after it was forced to temporarily close following its latest health inspection.

Hot & Spicy Cajun Seafood at 5004 Frankford had 27 violations. The restaurant was temporarily closed after scoring less than 70 on its health inspection. The facility was closed for 24 hours to correct its violations, was reinspected and allowed to reopen.

Hot & Spicy Cajun Seafood — 27 violationsMultiple foods were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees, including cooked chicken, cooked beef, crab legs and hard-boiled eggsCorn and potatoes were not at least 135 degreesRaw shrimp was stored above ready-to-eat cabbageRaw lobster was stored above hard-boiled eggsRaw catfish was stored above ready-to-eat sausage and crab legsThere was an accumulation of black residue inside the ice machineThe inside of the soda nozzles was dirtyCups next to the soda fountain had a sticky substance inside themThe drain line on the soda machine is connected to a sump pump that’s connected to the sewer lineThe drain lines for the ice bin and other bar equipment were not installed properlyAn employee blew air into their gloves before putting them on, contaminating the glovesChicken wings did not have a date markThere was no thermometer on the dishwasherThe gaskets of the walk-in cooler were damagedThere was a jug of pesticide not approved for commercial kitchensThe inspector noted the person in charge did not demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease prevention
