Walmart and Sam’s Club will begin rolling out a Tap to Pay at Texas stores in September and October.

On Monday, the retail giant announced Tap to Pay would debut at select Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations beginning this week and reach all U.S. stores and clubs by the end of 2026.

The plan is to introduce Tap to Pay state by state with the estimated rollout for Texas stores happening in September and October, Walmart representative Mariel Messier told the Chronicle in a Thursday email.

“Upon completion of the roll out, customers will be able to use contactless-enabled credit and debit cards, digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Garmin Pay and supported payment-enabled smartwatches and wearables,” Messier said.

The option will be coming to Walmart and Sam’s Club fuel stations in mid-2027. Customers can also add eligible Walmart, Sam’s Club and OnePay cards to their digital wallets to use them with Tap to Pay.

At Sam’s Club, the Scan & Go option has been available since 2016. Members scan items with a mobile device and pay as they shop, skipping the traditional checkout line.

“When we think about convenience, we think about a lot of things, but making shopping feel simpler and more seamless from start to finish is a big part. And one of the moments where that matters most is at checkout,” according to a company news release. “We want customers and members to have choice in how they pay, so they can check out in the way that works best for them.”
