Authorities provided new details Friday afternoon about the stabbing at Americas High School in El Paso, including the age of the alleged aggressor and charges filed in the case.
The stabbing happened around 8:30 a.m. near the school’s baseball field as students were arriving for class, according to Socorro Independent School District officials.
Three students were taken to the hospital with stab wounds. All three were initially reported to be in stable condition, and two have since been released, officials said.
The alleged aggressor is a 14-year-old male who was taken into custody by Socorro ISD police. Authorities said he is being charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Officials have not confirmed whether the suspect is a student at Americas High School.
The victims and witnesses were also teenagers. A female victim is 14 years old, while two student witnesses identified by officials are also 14.
Authorities have not released a possible motive. The cause and circumstances of the stabbing remain under investigation.

Socorro ISD officials said Friday’s stabbing stemmed from an incident between students as they arrived for class at Americas High School. The district lifted the campus lockdown around 10 a.m. after the student identified as the aggressor was taken into custody by Socorro ISD Police, according to KTSM. The students involved were identified and their parents were notified.
“I’m deeply disturbed by what happened at America’s High School this morning,” El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson said in a public statement. “No parents should have to receive a call that their child has been hurt at school, and no students should ever feel unsafe at school.”
Students were later reunited with family members at the school’s gymnasium as the investigation continued.
“We will continue to stand beside the Americas High School community, support those who have been affected, and keep the victims and their families close in our hearts and prayers,” El Paso County Judge Ricardo A. Samaniego added.

In a statement, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said all three were taken to the hospital with stab wounds and were last said to be in stable condition. One suspect is in custody.
The sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation with help from the Texas Rangers and Socorro ISD Police Department.
“All other students and staff are safe under the supervision of faculty and staff,” Socorro ISD said, according to ABC News.

Americas High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning as emergency crews responded to the campus, according to KTSM.
State Sen. César Blanco, who represents the El Paso area, said his office was in close contact with local and state officials following the incident.
