A thunderstorm rolled through the San Antonio area Friday, forcing delays because of lightning and pouring rain. Southwest led Victoria East 14-0 late in the second quarter when officials called the game. That was the first among many games in the San Antonio area to be canceled.
School officials at East Central and Harlan elected to suspend their game and resume at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gustafson Stadium. Harlan leads East Central 10-0 with 49 seconds left in the first quarter, when play is set to resume.
Officials at Brennan-Austin Vandegrift, the Express-News Game of the Week, decided to resume play after a lightning delay of nearly three hours. The game is expected to resume around 10:50 p.m. with the Vipers leading the Bears 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. The initial lightning delay was called shortly after 8 p.m.
Friday’s thunderstorm came a day after rain and lightning forced weather delays in several games in the San Antonio area Thursday.
Southwest Legacy and Marshall suspended their season opener Thursday night and completed it Friday morning at Gustafson Stadium, resuming play in the second quarter. The Titans finished off a 33-14 win over the Rams.
These are games moved or canceled because of inclement weather Friday.
