Widespread power outages are hitting San Antonio Saturday morning, with nearly 71,000 CPS Energy customers in the dark.
According to CPS Energy’s outage map, 568 active outages were affecting 70,800 customers across its service area as of 7:09 a.m. Saturday, August 29. More than 60,200 of the affected customers were in San Antonio, while roughly 750 customers were without power in Alamo Heights and another 700 in Terrell Hills.
In a 4:30 a.m. update, the utility said some customers could experience extended outages as crews assess widespread storm damage and make repairs. Estimated restoration times may not be immediately available for some outages.
Crews are prioritizing downed power lines before moving to outages affecting the largest number of customers and critical facilities. Smaller and individual outages will follow.
CPS Energy urged residents to stay away from downed power lines and treat them as energized. Downed lines can be reported by calling 210-353-HELP (4357).
The city also said it can help with fallen trees or debris in your yard or street by calling 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000.
The stormy weather is expected to clear out Saturday as hotter and drier conditions return. The National Weather Service expects temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, with even hotter conditions possible Sunday as highs climb into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees, according to forecast discussion.
