The Texas General Land Office is hosting a free homeowner outreach event today in Texas City to help residents impacted by 2024 storms get connected with recovery assistance programs.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Moore Memorial Public Library, located at 1701 9th Ave. N in Texas City. GLO representatives are on hand to walk homeowners through eligibility requirements and available programs for repairing, rebuilding or receiving reimbursement for storm-related damage.
“The Texas General Land Office’s housing programs have helped more than 14,000 Texas families rebuild their homes – and their lives,” said Commissioner Dawn Buckingham. “In 2024, many Texas communities experienced significant damage from severe storms, including devastating straight-line winds, tornadoes, and Hurricane Beryl.”
Buckingham is encouraging homeowners who are still struggling to recover to take advantage of the available resources.
“While many communities are familiar with the GLO’s housing efforts, many are new to the programs,” she said. “We hope homeowners still struggling to recover in the 27 eligible counties will visit recovery.texas.gov/apply to learn more and apply.”
What homeowners need to know
Programs are available only for a primary residence, and homeowners may apply for only one of two options — either reimbursement assistance or repair and reconstruction assistance. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and eligible homeowners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Homeowners should review document checklists before applying. Applications, along with all required documents, must be submitted for consideration.

Eligible counties
The following 27 counties are eligible for assistance: Anderson, Bell, Brazoria, Caldwell, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Fort Bend, Galveston, Guadalupe, Hardin, Hays, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Kaufman, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Newton, Polk, San Jacinto, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Walker and Wharton.
