The Dallas Cowboys made a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the second offseason in a row.
1. The basics
Name: Broderick Bernard Jones
Height/weight: 6-5, 311 pounds
2. The trade
Dallas sent two draft picks, a third-rounder and a sixth-rounder, to the Steelers in exchange for Jones, getting back a fourth-round selection as well.
The sixth-round pick the Cowboys are sending to Pittsburgh is the pick Dallas acquired in the George Pickens trade last year. The Cowboys still have their own sixth-rounder while the Steelers get theirs back.
3. Former first-rounder
The Steelers selected Jones out of Georgia with the 14th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He played in 45 games during his three-year stint in Pittsburgh and started in 38.
Jones appeared to be on the Steelers’ roster bubble for first-year head coach Mike McCarthy, who previously was the coach of the Cowboys. Instead of waiting to see if the Steelers would place Jones on waivers, the Cowboys jumped ahead to make the trade.
4. Offseason surgery
Jones played the majority of the 2025 season at left tackle before suffering a neck injury in Week 12 that led to spinal fusion surgery. He lost his starting job in the offseason when the Steelers drafted Max Iheanachor in the first round.
In late July, Jones was cleared to practice and worked at right and left tackle during Steelers training camp. With the Cowboys, his experience at playing both tackle spots makes him the perfect candidate as the swing tackle.
5. Freak athlete
One observer of a Broderick Jones highlight reel said: “He makes 311 look like 225.”
Jones is an incredible athlete for his size, perhaps thanks in part to playing varsity basketball in high school. He ran a 4.97 40-yard dash in the 2023 scouting combine, the fastest of any offensive lineman by .01 seconds ahead of Jacksonville tackle Anton Harrison.
