Everything now focuses into Week 1 for the Houston Texans.
Who’ ‘s sticking around?
The Texans have until 5 p.m. on Sunday to trim their roster from 90 to 53 players. Cutdowns can officially begin on Saturday, though most moves aren’t expected to be made until at least the early stages of Sunday morning.
There are a handful of players who have made a case for a roster spot after a strong preseason, but won’t make the cut because of other positions needing depth. After forming the 53-man roster, the Texans will start putting together their practice squad, which should feature some of those names who just missed the cut.
There will be some possible shocking cuts on the way around the NFL, meaning the initial 53-man roster won’t necessarily be the final roster heading into Houston’s Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills.

According to KPRC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson, the Texans plan to waive injured defensive end Solomon Byrd following Friday night’s game. Although Byrd wasn’t a lock to make the active roster, he was a favorite to stick around on the defensive line as a practice squad member.
According to KPRC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson, the Texans are releasing former Connecticut tight end Louis Hansen. Mostly used as a blocking option, Hansen could be brought back on the practice squad.
Running backs Owen Wright and Duece Vaughn have both been let go via release. The Texans could elect to waive Noah Whittington, British Brooks or Jawhar Jordan and bring them back on the practice squad.
