Several San Antonio businesses remain closed or operate with limited services on Sunday, August 30, after a strong Friday evening storm brought heavy rain and damaging winds to the area.

The storm caused widespread power outages across San Antonio, disrupting businesses and leaving some without electricity through the weekend. As of 9:43 a.m., 19,000 customers are without power, according to a CPS Energy outage map. The local utility company wrote on X at 7:19 a.m. on Sunday that it understands the frustration of customers still without power, adding that its crews are working to repair the damage from Friday night’s storm. 

Some businesses, particularly on the Westside, which was hit hardest by the storm, have announced temporary closures while crews and employees work to assess damage, restore power, and get operations back up and running. The Las Palmas H-E-B, for example, reopened Sunday but was operating with limited items as employees worked to restock refrigerated products.

M.K. Davis Restaurant & Bar

The beloved local restaurant, M.K. Davis Restaurant & Bar, posted on Facebook that it is still without power after 36 hours. Due to the outage, the business will remain closed on Sunday.

“We know this has been a difficult weekend for many in our community, and we appreciate everyone who has checked in on us. We’re hopeful power will be restored soon so we can get our kitchen back up and running and be ready to serve you again,” the restaurant wrote.

Texas Warehouse Pizzas displayed a sign on its door on Sunday, “Sorry we’re out of power.” The restaurant is located at 723 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78201.

Mural Roasters, a local coffee shop on the city’s Westside, wrote on its Instagram story that it still has no power as of Sunday and will keep customers posted on when the cafe can reopen. 

The Bazan and San Pedro public libraries will remain closed on Sunday due to ongoing power outages, according to the San Antonio Public Library’s Facebook. Las Palmas is open on Sunday after its power was restored overnight.
