CPS Energy is largely working with San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) and Southwest ISD, officials said during a press conference Sunday morning. The city said it’s working closely with CPS Energy teams to ensure the districts have everything they need to resume school on Monday.
SAISD told MySA its schools will operate on a normal schedule Monday. SAISD said its teams are actively inspecting campuses to make sure they are safe, operational and ready to welcome students and staff.
Southwest ISD wrote on Facebook that its schools are expected to operate normally on Monday. The district said most campuses have power, and it’s working closely with CPS Energy as crews continue restoration efforts to ensure all campuses are up and running by the start of school on Monday.
“Our district teams are also monitoring conditions and checking campuses to ensure they are safe and ready to welcome our students and staff,” Southwest ISD wrote. “We will continue to monitor the situation and provide another update later this evening.”
CPS Energy continues working to restore power across San Antonio after a severe storm left thousands without electricity, some for more than 24 hours.
CPS Energy said Sunday morning that about 20,000 customers remained without power, down from roughly 250,000 customers who lost power after Friday’s storm. Officials cautioned that some outages could continue into early next week.
As of 3 p.m. on Sunday, about 11,000 customers are without power, according to the CPS Energy outage map.
The utility has brought in additional crews and expects to have nearly double its normal restoration capacity Sunday.
