A 21-year-old man was arrested by Fort Worth police after he allegedly stabbed his sleeping cousin multiple times, killing her, early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Oakland Hills Drive about 2:45 a.m. after receiving a call from a man who said his friend has confessed to stabbing someone, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The man said he’d given the 21-year-old suspect a ride to an area off E. Lancaster Avenue, and when he got out, he told him in Spanish he had stabbed his cousin while making a “cutting motion across his neck.” He said he thought his friend was joking but decided to call police once he returned home.

After arriving at the suspect’s apartment, officers found a woman lying on the floor in the back bedroom with multiple wounds, according to the affidavit. She died at the scene.

Police said they found a large knife on the kitchen counter and men’s clothing on the bathroom floor that appeared to have blood on it. 

Homicide unit detectives then received a call that the 21-year-old suspect had called a friend for another ride near a shopping center in the 4700 block of E. Lancaster Avenue, where he was taken into custody. Officers noticed he had blood on his shirt and injuries to his arms, according to the affidavit.

He was read his Miranda rights in Spanish and agreed to talk to detectives, the affidavit said. 

The affidavit said he told them he had gone home about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, smoked crack cocaine and laid down for bed. When he woke up, he said he grabbed a large knife, went to his cousin’s room and stabbed her in the back.

He told officers she woke up, rolled over and “begged him to stop” but he continued to stab her before showering, changing clothes and leaving.

As of Sunday night, it remained unclear whether the suspect remains in the Tarrant County jail. Police said he faces a murder charge.
