LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Olton Mustangs are this week’s End Zone Team of the Week after shutting out the Lubbock Roosevelt Eagles on the road 40-0.
The Mustangs opened up the game with a touchdown thanks to senior running back Jett Tomsu but the rest of the first quarter would be pretty silent.
Second quarter, different story. Olton put up 27 points and with senior quarterback Brady Azam having himself three touchdowns, along with other teammates finding the endzone like Alex Green and Zayden Falcon. The Mustangs would also have a successful onside kick after Jose Rosales came up with it. Ultimately putting up a total of 40 unanswered points against Lubbock Roosevelt.
Flip side of the ball, defensively, wow what a showing. Holding a 3A team to zero points on the road is a huge feat, especially in week one. Aiden Alderson would add onto the Mustang score but on defense thanks to a scoop and score touchdown.
But probably the best or funniest moment of the night for the Mustangs? It was when the managers forgot the tee on the field and head coach James Dougherty had to run out and grab it before the next play, but he of course had his handy dandy, trusty Mountain Dew with him, something he always has. Safe to say, his team needs to do a Mountain Dew celebration with coach, rather than Gatorade!
Up next, the Olton Mustangs get ready for their 2026 Homecoming home opener where they will welcome the Morton Indians to town. Morton (0-1) is coming off a 10-point week one loss against Brownfield but Coach Dougherty and his team know they need to keep things simple and focus on what they do well out on the gridiron.
