A tree has fallen in hurricane force winds causing a blackout & blocking a narrow road.
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio officials are confirming at least one drowning death connected to Friday’s severe storms as crews continue working to restore power and clean up damage across the city.
San Antonio Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame said officers and firefighters with the San Antonio Fire Department responded to reports of two people swept away by floodwaters near San Pedro Creek north of downtown. One person was found alive, while the body of a 46-year-old woman was recovered Saturday evening near the 500 block of West Quincy Street. The Bexar County Medical Examiner was investigating her death as a drowning.
A man’s body was also recovered Sunday morning from Woodlawn Lake. Police were investigating whether his death was connected to the storms.
At the height of Friday’s storms, about 250,000 CPS Energy customers lost power. That number had fallen below 20,000 by Sunday morning and to fewer than 7,000 by about 9:50 p.m.
Interim CPS Energy President Frank Almaraz said the number of outages could fluctuate as crews work to restore service. CPS Energy has received additional help from neighboring utilities, including Pedernales Electric Cooperative, which sent 50 lineworkers and support staff to San Antonio.
San Antonio officials said they were coordinating with school districts ahead of Monday’s classes. San Antonio ISD said Sunday it planned to operate on a normal schedule while crews inspected campuses for storm damage.
Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai also said the county jail, which experienced disruptions during the storm, was fully operational by Sunday evening.
Officials urged residents to report downed power lines to CPS Energy at 210-353-4357 and submit storm damage reports through the state’s iSTAT Damage Survey.
