Frenship came into the 2026 season with a new quarterback and apparently decided the best way to break him in was to let him throw touchdowns all night.
That worked out pretty well.
The Tigers rolled past rival Lubbock-Cooper 50-17, with junior James Ordonez looking anything but nervous in his first career start. Ordonez threw five touchdown passes before halftime as Frenship raced out to a 34-10 lead and basically turned opening night into an offensive showcase.
Zade McClure caught the first two touchdown passes, and Noah Gonzales also got into the end zone as Frenship kept finding ways to stretch the field. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers had already hit 50.
For a team replacing its starting quarterback, that is a pretty encouraging way to start the year.
Frenship now gets Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, which opened with a 49-14 win over Frenship Memorial. Lubbock-Cooper will try to shake this one off against Greenwood, which started its season with a 39-12 win over Jim Ned.
