Cheniere Energy has completed the Corpus Christi LNG Stage 3 project in Texas, increasing its LNG production capacity by more than 20% to approximately 56 MMtpa, as the company also exported its 5,000th LNG cargo.
(P&GJ) — Cheniere Energy has achieved substantial completion of its Corpus Christi LNG Stage 3 project in Texas, increasing the company’s LNG production capacity by more than 20% to approximately 56 MMtpa.
The milestone was reached Aug. 28 when Bechtel Energy turned over care, custody and control of the seventh and final Stage 3 train to Cheniere. The company issued full notice to proceed on the project in June 2022, with the first Stage 3 train producing LNG in December 2024.
“With the substantial completion of CCL Stage 3, Cheniere and Bechtel have again delivered a major LNG project safely, on budget and ahead of schedule, solidifying our track record of excellence in project execution,” Cheniere Chairman, President and CEO Jack Fusco said.
Cheniere also announced the production and export of its 5,000th LNG cargo from its U.S. Gulf Coast operations, reaching the milestone roughly 10 years after exporting its first cargo.
The Yari LNG carrier departed the company’s Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana on Aug. 29 carrying the milestone cargo and was headed to Asia.
Since producing its first LNG cargo in 2016, Cheniere has supplied more than 340 million tonnes of LNG to global markets. The company said its LNG platform now represents more than 10% of total global LNG capacity.
“Producing and exporting 5,000 LNG cargoes is a remarkable achievement, and doing so in record time – just 10 years after our first cargo – makes it even more extraordinary,” Fusco said.
Cheniere operates LNG export infrastructure along the U.S. Gulf Coast at Corpus Christi in Texas and Sabine Pass in Louisiana.
