If you ride the Citibus, or you’ve ever tried to figure out how to get all the way across Lubbock without a car, you’re going to want to pay close attention on September 28th.

Citibus is launching the first phase of its new five-year service plan. There will be a brand new route and three redesigned routes to get around town.

Wait, What’s Changing Exactly?

According to KCBD, Phase One of the plan involves four routes:

Route 205 – Pink – This is a brand-new route that will run from North Indiana through Texas Tech and Covenant, and eventually make its way to South Quaker and 122nd Street.Route 025 – Purple – This is a redesign of what used to be Route 6. The new route is designed to improve connections between Parkway Drive, Dunbar, 50th Street, and the South Plains Mall.Route 211 – Green –  This route connects Cherry Point with West End along 4th Street and incorporates parts of the previous route into a new design.Route 214 – Red – This route serves Sunrise Canyon along 19th Street to West End and will create a more direct travel option for passengersSo, Why Is Citibus Doing All This?

Well, simply put, because Lubbock has changed.

This is only the beginning of their five-year plan to better equip the bus system to handle the city’s growth and travel patterns. The long-term plan hopes to reduce the system’s reliance on the Downtown Transfer Plaza and aims to eventually create additional mobility hubs around Lubbock.

How To Prepare For Changes

Friends, if you use the bus regularly, check for new maps and schedules before September 28th so you won’t be scrambling at the last second trying to figure out where you’re going! You can also use the GoPass app to help plan your trips ahead of time.

Lubbock’s bus system isn’t going to be completely replaced, but it looks like it’s being gradually rearranged to better serve us, and that’s a good thing.
